Surgical service

  • Diagnose and make clinical judgment of surgical problems;
  • preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures;
  • correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients’ functions on:
  1. HEAD: perform repair of scalp laceration, excision of a scalp mass, emergency burr hole and craniotomy;
  2. EYES: perform minor and emergency surgeries like tarsotomy, tarsorrhaphy, enucleation, evisceration;
  • EARS: perform foreign body removal and other minor surgeries;
  1. LIPS: perform repair of lip laceration, cleft lip and other minor surgeries;
  2. NOSE: perform removal of foreign body, polyps and other minor surgeries;
  3. THROAT: performs tonsillectomy and other minor surgeries;
  • LYMPHOGLANDULAR SYSTEM: performs lymph node biopsy and excision, mastectomy, parotidectomy, thyroidectomy, Para thyroidectomy, adrenalectomy;
  • RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: perform endotracheal intubation, cricothyroidotomy, tracheostomy, bronchoscopy procedures, tube thoracotomy, thoracotomy, lung lobectomy, pneumonectomy;
  1. CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM: perform patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) ligation, pericardectomy, pericardiostomy, arteriovenous fistula, minor vascular surgeries;
  2. GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM: perform acute abdominal emergency procedures (appendectomy, bowel resection and anastomosis, etc.), patent process us vaginalis (PPV) ligation, herniorrhaphies cholecystectomy, upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures, splenectomy, esophagectomy, colectomy, abdomenoperineal resection, pancreatectomy, hepatic lobectomy.
  3. GENITOURINARY SYSTEM: perform nephrectomy, nephrolithotomy, nephrostomy, pyelolithotomy, uretero-lithotomy, cystolithotomy, cystostomy, cystectomy, prostatectomy, orchiectomy, hydrocelectomy, male circumcision, emergency Caesarean section, emergency salpingio-oopherectomy, emergency hysterectomy, uterine repair, urethral dilatation, urethrotomy, urethroplasty, peritoneal and hemodialysis access;
  • MUSCOLOSKELETAL SYSTEM: perform excision of a mass, muscle biopsy, emergency tendon, ligament repair, fracture treatment by plaster of Paris (POP), traction, external and internal fixation;
  • INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM: perform excision of a mass for biopsy or treatment, skin graft, simple flaps; and
  • NERVOUS SYSTEM: perform repair of nerves, minor surgeries;
  • Conducts teaching and research in surgery.
  • Undertake complete history, physical examination, investigation and diagnostic procedures in the area of orthopedic and trauma surgery;
  • Prescribe preoperative and postoperative medications;
  • Prescribe orthosis and prosthesis;
  • Administer intra-articular injections;
  • Apply splints, tractions, casts;
  • Replace a diseased joint with prosthetic devices;
  • Perform amputations or disarticulations;
  • Perform skin grafts and flaps;
  • Perform arthroscopic examination and treatment of joint diseases;
  • Perform closed and open reduction of all musculoskeletal dislocations;
  • Perform closed and open reduction and internal fixation of all musculoskeletal fractures;
  • Treat torn ligaments, sprains, and strains;
  • Treat tendon and nerve injuries, pulled muscles, and bursitis;
  • Treat low back pain, kyphosis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, and spondylitis;
  • Treat metabolic bone diseases;
  • Treat degenerative, inflammatory and other joint and spine problems;
  • Treat all sorts of musculoskeletal infections;
  • Treat bone and extremity soft tissue tumors and related conditions;
  • Treat all congenital as well as developmental abnormalities and deformities like knock knees, bow legs, bunions and hammer toes;
  • Participate in the rehabilitation of patients in collaboration with physiotherapist and orthotics and prosthetics professionals;
  • Conduct research in the area of orthopedics; and
  • Educate and train students, residents and other health care professionals in orthopedics.
