Background of Bishoftu General Hospital

Bishoftu General Hospital is one of the well-performing hospitals in Ethiopia, thus winning national and regional rewards and recognition for the last three consecutive EHAQ cycle performances. It is located 47 KM South East of Addis Ababa(the Capital city of Ethiopia) in the Oromia region, Bishoftu city near a distance of 2 KM from the former main road of Addis Ababa to Djibouti. It was established in 1941 G.C and had been serving as a prison camp for the Italian military, the Red Cross Society, and a Health Center and renovated by the government of the previous Soviet Union in 1988 G.C to a district Hospital until 2003 G.C, then became General Hospital.
Bishoftu General Hospital is providing compressive health services for three towns and five districts of woreda, which is around 2.4 Million in population, its catchment area is 3,600 square KM and its daily patient load is around 800 to 900. Its total functional patient beds are around 203 with more than 24 service delivery departments.
In general Bishoftu General Hospital is an outstanding hospital in the region in all aspects by providing patient-centered, equitable, and quality health service for those in need. 
Currently, the hospital started G+3 and G+2 MNCH building for service expansion and working on upgrading the Hospital to a compressive specialized and teaching hospital in near future in collaboration with all stakeholders.
