- Provides primary eye care services including the diagnosis and management of the following simple ocular conditions
- Run low vision rehabilitation programs;
- Perform diagnostic procedures of the anterior and posterior segments so as to identify vision-threatening ocular conditions and refer them to ophthalmologists;
- Perform school eye care screening programs (Vision Testing Programs);
- Perform community-based eye care programs;
- Work as part of an eye care team that is involved in the prevention of blindness;
- Actively engage in research activities
- Provides care in pre/post and intra-operative nursing;
- Implements and monitors nursing care for clients with acute health problems;
- Administer and monitors medications as prescribed in the work environment;
- Provides wound management and assists in advanced procedures;
- Plans, monitors, and manages ophthalmic health service;
- Assesses diagnoses and prescribes to the scope;
- Ensures the maintenance of a safe environment for visually impaired people;
- Promotes, develops, and delivers evidence-based practice in ophthalmic nursing;
- Operates and manages ophthalmic machines;
- Performs minor ophthalmic surgery;
- Provides health education in the maintenance of ocular health;
- Implements specialist access and egress procedures;
- Conducts clinical mentoring in the work environment;
- Applies research skills in nursing care;
- Develops a disaster plan;
- Undertake complete ophthalmologic examination;
- Perform and interprets diagnostic tests including color vision and stereopsis tests, tonometry, biometry, ophthalmic ultrasound examination visual field test fundus photography fluorescein angiography optical coherence tomography; perform refraction and prescribe glasses and fits contact lenses to treat refractive errors;
- Perform oculoplastic surgeries to correct simple entropies, ptosis; blepharoplasty surgery, lid laceration repair, lid tumor excision
- Perform simple anterior orbitotomy surgeries like removing lacrimal gland tumors and dermoid cysts
- Perform destructive procedures including evisceration, enucleating and exenteration when indicated;
- Perform lacrimal drainage procedures including probing, dacryocystorhinostomy and dacryocystectomy;
- Perform ocular surface surgeries including excision of pterygium and conjunctiva tumor;
- Perform surgeries for anterior segment trauma including corneal and corneo-scleral tear repairs, hyphema washout and ruptured lens washout.
- Perform cataract surgery including intra capsular and extra capsular cataract surgeries, manual small incision cataract surgery and phaco, complicated cataract surgeries like cataract in post trabelectomy, uveitic cataract and combined cataract and trabelectomy surgeries;
- Performrefractionandprescribesglassesandfitscontactlensestotreatrefractive errors;
- Perform oculoplasty surgeries to corrects impleentropion, ptosis; blepharoplasty surgery lid laceration repair lid tumor excision
- Performsimpleanteriororbitotomysurgerieslikeremovelacrimalglandtumorsand dermoid cysts
- Performdestructiveproceduresincludingevisceration,enucleationandexenteration when indicated;

- Administerperiocularandintraocularinjectionsincludingantibiotics,anti-Vascular EndothelialGrowthFactor(VEGF)andsteroidstotreatvariousoculardiseases;
- Perform laser surgeries including laser capsulotomy laser iridotomy and retinal laser photo coagulation includes Pan Retinal Photo coagulation (PRP) and Grid lase
- Manageophthalmicconditions,takingintoaccountbothmedical&psychological aspects of patient care;
- Conduct clinical as well as population based ophthalmological surveys;
- Consultwith,orprovideconsultingservicetoothersinmattersrelatedtoeyehealth;
- Train undergraduate and post graduate medical students; and
- Participate in the planning, coordinating, monitoring and evaluation of blindness prevention programs.
