Maternal and Child Health Services
- Provide specialized care and treatment for women during prenatal, natal, and post-natal periods;
- Perform specialized lifesaving procedures in gynecology and obstetrics;
- Perform surgical procedures in Obstetrics and Gynecology;
- Provide specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury in matters related to reproduction, its function, and process;
- Advise clients/patients and community members concerning disease prevention health promotions in matters related to reproductive health and reproductive organs and diseases;
- Conduct operational research in the area of obstetrics and gynecology;
- Provide clinical training to prepare medical students and fellow residents for their roles in obstetrics and gynecology practice;
- Consult with, or provide consulting services to, other physicians in matters related to reproductive health;
- Act as a team leader for the gynecology and obstetrics staff; and
- Plan and implement health programs in health care settings or communities for prevention of reproductive ill-health and treatment of injuries or illnesses.
- Prescribes and administer common drugs like uterotonics, antibiotics, and analgesic agents in midwifery practice;
- Diagnoses and manages obstetrical and gynecological emergency problems related to pregnancy and childbirth and consults higher-level professionals and/or refers for higher-level management
- Performs vacuum delivery
- Diagnoses and manages emergency situations of newborn, respiratory distress (newborn resuscitation), hypothermia refer/consult when necessary
- Records information on patient/client medical history, examination, diagnosis, and treatment provided on the appropriate patient/client charts;
- Diagnoses and manages common gynecological problems as per the acquired training, and consults/refer if necessary;
- Provides comprehensive abortion care
- Performs examination for sexual assault and manages accordingly
- Perform minor procedure (episiotomy) and repair 1st and 2nd-degree tears.
- Promotes and undertakes basic and operational research on maternal and child health issues;
- Involve in primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of maternal and child health problems;
- Provides Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) service
